Guidance
Validation of European Patent Submission
Filing an Application for granting a European Patent
The application for granting a European Patent may be submitted directly to the European Patent Organisation or through the Intellectual Property Section.
By submitting one single application, in the English, German or French language, which is subject to examination by the European Patent Organisation, separate patents are granted for each one of the countries that have been selected in the application.
The protection of the patent in each one of the countries selected is subject to its validation by the national patent office. Therefore, where applicable, a translation of the European Patent in the national language must be filled and the corresponding fees must be paid.
In case you choose to file the application for granting a European Patent with the Intellectual Property Section, upon the submission of the necessary documents and fees, the Section provides a relevant European application number and sends the application and fees to the EPO, which is responsible for the substantive examination of the application.
