About Trademark

What is a Trademark?

A trademark is a distinctive element or a combination of elements, which is used to distinguish the products or services of an enterprise from the products or services of other enterprises, such as:

  • words;
  • persons' names;
  • drawings;
  • letters;
  • numbers;
  • illustrations;
  • colours;
  • shape of product;
  • shape of its packaging; or
  • sounds.

Registration of a trademark constitutes a form of intellectual property.

What are the prerequisites for the registration of a trademark?

What are the benefits of protecting a trademark?

It is noted, that a trademark neither protects the appearance of a product nor an invention. If you wish to protect the appearance of your product, or your invention, you may do so through other forms of intellectual property rights (e.g. industrial design or sample, patent etc). For further information, you may refer to the page choosing the most suitable type of intellectual property right.
