Message from the Registrar of Companies and Intellectual Property
Irene Mylona-Chrysostomou was appointed Registrar of Companies and Intellectual Property in July 2022.
She is a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) graduate from the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki and has a Master in Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Nicosia. She is also a member of the Cyprus Bar Association since 1991.
Mrs. Mylona-Chrysostomou was first appointed at the Department as an Examiner in 1993. During her 30 years of employment, she has served in various positions in the Intellectual Property and the Bankruptcies (now a subsection of the Department of Insolvency of the Ministry of Energy) Sections, but mainly in the Companies Section where she also served as a Senior Officer and Head of the Section prior to her appointment as Registrar of Companies.
Her responsibilities include the implementation of the Government’s policy with regards to improving business environment and safeguarding intellectual property rights as well as the daily supervision and management of the two Sections of the Department. She is also President of the Cyprus Copyright Authority and the Head of the Delegation of the Republic of Cyprus in International Organizations such as EPO, EUIPO and WIPO.
Her law related interests include corporate and intellectual property law, as well as matters relating to the implementation of the Prevention and Suppression of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Law of 2007, on the basis of which the Registrar of Companies is the competent authority for the establishment and maintenance of the Register of Beneficial Owners of Corporate and Other Legal Entities.
Mrs. Mylona-Chrysostomou was member of the Sanctions Implementation Unit (MEK) and the Advisory Committee on Economic Sanctions (SEOK) of the Ministry of Finance from March 2019 το July 2022. She is also a Member of AIPFE Cyprus-Women of Europe and the Cyprus Association for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Family.
