Activities
The activities of the Intellectual Property Section are summarized as follows:
Registering Registering an Intellectual Property Right
The Intellectual Property Section is the competent authority for registering national Patents, national Trade marks, national Industrial Designs and the validation of European Patent submission in the Republic of Cyprus. Furthermore, the Department transmits the application for a European Patent to the European Patent Office (EPO) for granting and the registration of International Trade marks to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Maintaining an updated register of Trade marks, Patents and Industrial Designs
The Intellectual Property Section to ensure that adequate and up-to-date information is maintained on the Register, records all amendments in the particulars of registered rights of Trade marks, Patents and Industrial Designs,as well as any other changes to maintain an update register of intellectual property rights.
Publication of the register of intellectual property rights
The Intellectual Property Section provides the possibility to conduct electronic search in the particulars of trade marks. At the same time,details of registered trade marks and industrial designs are available for search through European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), search tools respectively.
Monitoring and harmonization of legislation
The Intellectual Property Section harmonizes and modernizes the laws of Trademarks, Patents and Industrial Designs. The Section is also responsible for providing information and reform copyright and neighbouring right legislation.
Participation in European and International Organizations
The Intellectual Property Section, participates in the Boards and Committees of the European Patent Office (EPO), the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) as well as in the various cooperation programs for the management and implementation of various legal and technical issues regarding the protection and promotion of Intellectual Property Rights.
