Campaign informing the public regarding the benefits of protecting intellectual property
The Intellectual Property Section of the Department of Registrar of Companies and Intellectual Property hereby announces the launch of an advertising campaign that aims to inform the benefits the public can derive by protecting its intellectual property, i.e. Trademarks and Industrial Designs, in Cyprus and the European Union.
The campaign also aims to inform the public regarding the relevant Trademarks and Industrial Designs Offices in Cyprus and the European Union through which they can apply to protect their rights. The campaign is 90% cofounded by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) as part of a bilateral cooperation agreement between the Department of Registrar of Companies and Intellectual Property and the EUIPO.
Intellectual Property protection is of high importance for businesspeople. The owner obtains exclusive rights of the Trademark’s use and exploitation and can oppose an unauthorized use by third parties of an identical or similar Trademark for identical or similar products or services, avoiding thus the risk of public confusion. Third party Trademark use can only occur through a license obtained by the owner.
Industrial Design protection includes the external design or the appearance of the whole or part of a product, which arises from its particular characteristics, such as outline, shape, form, colours, line, texture, materials of the actual product and its decoration. By submitting an Industrial Design, you acquire exclusive rights of use over the design and you can object to its unauthorized use by third persons. Additionally, the rights of a submitted industrial design constitute assets of your enterprise and may be sold or treated otherwise commercially exploited for monetary compensation.
The campaign’s duration is from 03/12/2021 until the end of 2021. It includes tv, radio and magazine commercials, shopping mall board advertisement and commercial spots through Social Media and Google Network.
